On February 24th 2021, the consortium held the meeting to mark 15 months since the launch of the MappingAir project (GA N.878799). Once again, due to travel restrictions for the COVID-19 emergency, it was not possible to attend the meeting in person, and it was celebrated remotely using the WebEx videoconferencing application.
The partners reviewed all the activities performed in the working packages as well as the results achieved so far. A lot of attention was dedicated to the status of the 2 main pilots that will be deployed in Barcelona (Spain) and Rome (Italy) in the forthcoming months.
Regarding the pilot in Barcelona, the deployment plan was delivered and Agencia de Salud Publica (ASPB), the local public agency dedicated to public health, has already selected the location for 25 nodes, within the areas of the Superillas initiative by the municipality of Barcelona, with a focus on measuring the quality of the air in front of schools.
The final locations were also defined for the city of Rome. For this pilot, the consortium developed a methodology based on the classification of the land use that allows to optimize and partially automatize the effort for the selections of the locations in large-scale deployments.
